Mile High Weddings!

The latest idea for a wedding venue is aboard an Easy Jet aeroplane.  I suppose it is original but I wonder if you have all the usual hassle at the airport - checking in your bouquet!  Having seen Easy Jet in action I would be a little unwilling to trust them to provide my wedding venue!

I suppose there will be a lot of people who will go for it just to be different and good for them!  Personally I think i would prefer a tradition wedding where the only turbulence came from my grandmother’s rumbling stomache!

Where next I wonder?  Any suggestions as to outrageous places to wed gratefully received. I expect someone has already wed on the London Eye. What about the Lion enclosure at Longleat Wildlife Park?  I think Jumping out of an aeroplane may have been done  although I wonder how the registrar or priest gets them to repeat the vows and sign the register??

I have heard of underwater weddings (I hope they wore SCUBA equipment!) and wonder if they use waterproof ink?

The Dress!

After many hours spent trailing around every bridal shop within a fifty mile radius I have come back to one of the first I saw and ordered it. I guess there is something to be learned here!! The dress is Janessa by MAggia Sottero and I absolutely love it.   There is just too much choice out there and every shop you go to has a lot of gorgeous dresses making it so hard to choose.  Now I am determined that I will not even look into the window of a bridal shop when passing.  When Ihave decided what to wear on my head I shall buyl my accessories from www.princesssparkle.co.uk so luckily will not need to enter a bridal shop until I collect my dress.  I am so chuffed that I won’t need any alterations. I tried on their sample in my size and it was perfect.  With a petticoat and shopes I will not need the hem taking up.  I have read warnings on an article site about checking your dress when it arrives to make sure the shop aren’t selling you their sample.  I shall need to check it over very carefully.  I will take my mum when I do that because she is better at that sort of thing than I am.  I read that shops often just give a bride their sample especially if they haven’t sold many of that dress and to look inside the bodice and under the hem and train for marks.

Wedding Venue

We have found the wedding venue and the church is available on that day too so so far so good!  I know from friends and family that weddings rarely go to plan so I am trying very hard not to be too regimental in my planning.  I have friends who have carried round files with details of everything they found in magazines about wedding pasted in. Pages after pages of pictures of dresses, tiara, shoes etc.  Pages of pictures of venues as far away as a castle in Scotland!

It is hard to keep my feet on the ground becuse like everyone else I want it to be a very special day but am afraid of something going wrong.

The venue we have found is only a fifteen minute drive from the church and becuse the wedding is going to be in October we have got the place for £2000, half  of the Summer price. Of course we have to pay for the food and becuse they do not actually have their own caterers we can find our own.  My brother in law owns a restaurant and all the staff have offered to provide the buffet meal we want.  I don’t weant a sit down affair because I know from experience that half the people don’t receive their food hot and lots of them don’t like whatever meat you choose and you can’t have lots of different roast dinner options for 60 people!!

We have elected to have a buffet with lots of cold meats, salmon - smoked and poached. Lots of different things like spicey prawns on sticks - you know the sort of thing. Quiches, cheese, and different bready things! Lots of gorgous salads and several different scrumptious pudding. Tarte Tatin, Pavlova, Strawberries and raspberries, berry fool, chocolate mousse, strawberry mousse.  I shall make the mousse because that is something I love to make and love to eat!

Hhis mother wanted a sit down affair - seemed to think it was more ‘proper’. Personally I think it is a bit old fashioned and fortunately Peter and my parents agree with the lavish buffet and since they are paying for it that is what we are having.

We are going to have a few bottles of champagne per table - not the most expensive I hasten to add.  But champagne  is just right for a wedding and I don’t want people toasting us in Cava. What a snob!  No I really am not, never ever buy champagne normally but just for this occasion.

So that is booked. We now need to organise the flowers for the tables.  The dining tables and chairs are very attractive and of course the tables will be covered in white linen and we’ll have white linen napkins.  Apart from flowers on the tables I haven’t yet decided on other table decorations.  I don’t really want to go over the top but will obviously have favours for all the guests.  I will make my own because I can save a fortune that way and it is nice to make what you can.  I would like to do my own flowers and those for the bridesmaid but my mother hasa persuaded me that I simply will not have the time and I don’t want to gete into a panic about anything.

Next thing is to choose my dress. I have been out looking a few times and have looked online at the sites that make copies of designer gowns at a fraction of the price.  I don’t know anyone who has bought a dress this way and although the forums on sites like You and Your Wedding have brides saying they have got their dress and it is lovely it isn’t the same as seeing it myself.  I havenm’t yet decided on the dress and think I will make my decision this week while I am on holiday.

Crystal & Diamante Bridal Headband 1624

Reviews No Comments

Stunning crystal & diamante headband. This headband is perfect if you are having your hair down for your wedding or if you are having a wedding abroad. It is easy to wear and you do not have to have an elaborate up-do styled by a hairdresser, (not always that easy if you’re in a foreign land!) you just slide it on like a regular alice band but still have beautiful sparkle on your special day! Also, I seem to have a very strange shape head when it comes to tiaras and have found the bands much more comfortable to wear.

This delightful band is ideal for young Bridesmaid (Flowergirls) as it is made of flexible fabric and is therefore more comfortable for little heads to wear!

Looking for our Wedding Venue

At one place in Alverstoke we were quoted rather high cost for the alcohol so we asked if we could bring our own. ‘Oh Yes’ was the reply and they then went on to say that they would charge corkage of £20, yes that was £20. Can you believe it? £20 just to open the bottle of our own booze! The venue was OK with a permanent marquee for the reception and the view over the Solent is lovely but we were not totally impressed. I think I will check out on a couple of forums to see if anyone has had their reception there and what it was like.

We saw a small place a few miles away which seemed very nice but the rooms were not very big so we would be limited on guests. Another large old barn looks absolutely fabulous both inside and out but unfortunately it was very expensive. £3000 just to hire it for the reception and the food on top would be anything from £35 - £50 per head which we can hardly afford.

The golf Club had a lovely big room with views over the golf course but it did lack character and it wasn’t exactly cheap.

We actually saw seven different venues and we are not sure that we have found the one we want. I am really worried that we will not be able to get the place we want if we hang about any longer but Peter wants to see a couple more before we decide. I keep telling him that they will not be available if we don‘t just go for it now!

Because we think we are getting married in October it is easier to find a venue that can take us and we were pleased to discover that the price would be less at that time of year. It would also be less if we got married on a Friday but that would mean some people simply couldn’t come and I think it is a bit of a cheek to have the wedding on Friday just to save us money when it would mean our friends would have to take a day off work. Somehow Saturday seems the right day for a wedding!

I wish weddings didn’t cost so much. A few decades ago no one except the very rich expected to get married in a stately home. The local Community Centre hall and do it yourself catering or a local catering company to do the food. It must have been so much cheaper. Now of course we all want the best, the biggest and the most expensive!! A couple of sandwiches and a sausage roll simply will not do!!

We all want to be a princess for a day and it is going to be costly! Say the word wedding and £ signs light up in peoples eyes.

We have decided to get married in our local church. It is a very pretty church with an old graveyard full of trees and flowers and the lych gate is attractive and I have visions of festooning it with flowers. I can see us walking out together under the flowers to the car. Oh God – the car. That is something we haven’t sorted yet. How do we find one that is absolutely guaranteed not to break down on the way to the church?

We are going to see two more venues this Saturday and back to check out one that we like. We will have to decide and make sure it will be OK with the Church too.
